DANCE FESTIVAL COMING TO NORTHERN DOOR

Door County will welcome dance movers, makers and shakers from across the Midwest to the Death’s Door Dance Festival July 22-24.

On Friday, the Wickman House, 11976 Mink River Road in Ellison Bay, will host a pop-up performance of guest artists. Gather on the lawn to experience original, cutting-edge contemporary work in this intimate location.

On Saturday, the Ephraim and Sister Bay village halls will host free, public classes where all – beginner to advanced, flamenco to yoga – are welcome to learn. Saturday evening, the artist lineup will expand at the Sister Bay Beach performance pavilion with choreographers from Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Houston and Durham sharing an array of dance aesthetics. Take your beach blanket or folding chair, pack a cooler and celebrate the joy of dance.

The Sister Bay village hall will host Coffee & Conversation on Sunday morning with author, scholar and choreographer Sarah Wilbur. Attendees will predominantly be in the dance field, but any artist, arts ally, arts organizer or advocate is welcome to attend.

To close out the festivities, Door County Wildwood Market will host a dance jam featuring live musical accompaniment. Led by choreographer Dan Schuchart and accompanied by Tim Russell, this improvisational dance event offers the rare opportunity to witness the process of dance making. Go to watch, or take your dancing shoes to join in.
