Danish Mill Participates in Kringle Competition

The Danish Mill Bakery of Washington Island was one of 12 bakeries from five different states competing in the recent North American Kringle Competition in Madison. All 12 entries received some ballots in the people’s choice voting, however the final award went to Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe in Green Bay for their Sea Salt Caramel Pecan Kringle. The judging was done blind, giving equal chance to the competing bakeries from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, California and even Louisiana.

The North American Kringle Competition was a feature of the debut party for Eat Smart in Denmark by Carol L. Schroeder and Katrina A Schroeder. This travel guide for food lovers, published by Ginkgo Press of Madison (, explores the range of Danish food from Viking to modern times.
