Daoust Named Packerland Player of the Year

Southern Door sophomore point guard Drew Daoust has been named the 2022-23 Packerland Conference Player of the Year in boys basketball.

Daoust – the top scorer for the Eagles, who won the league title with a 15-1 record – was the only boys player from a Door County school named to the all-conference first team, for which he was a unanimous selection. He also exceeded 1,000 career points this season.

Southern Door’s Jared Hawkey, Sturgeon Bay’s Isaak Aune and Gibraltar’s Jake Schar, all seniors, were named to the Packerland’s second team.

County players receiving honorable mention include three seniors – Southern Door’s Taylor Schaefer, Gibraltar’s Will Friedenfel and Sevastopol’s Nick Peterson – and Sturgeon Bay junior Calvin Richard.

Bailey Rikkola

Two Pioneer Girls on First Team

Sevastopol senior Bailey Rikkola is the league’s 2022-23 Player of the Year in girls basketball.

Also a unanimous selection to the Packerland’s first team, she reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark this season and was the Pioneers’ leading scorer when they won the league title at 16-0.

Her teammate and sister, sophomore Naomi Rikkola, was also named to the league’s first team, along with Southern Door senior post player Allianna Dufek.

County girls basketball players on the second team include two sophomores, Southern Door’s Ashlyn Delfosse and Gibraltar’s Andie Schar.

Sevastopol’s Libby Ash and Southern Door’s Payton Gilbertson, both juniors, and Sturgeon Bay senior Autumn Rass, received honorable mention.

Wrestling All-conference

Southern Door’s wrestling team, which finished second in the Packerland with a dual meet record of 3-1, had five grapplers named to the all-conference first team: freshman Nora LeFevre (106), junior Mason Motquin (120), sophomore Wyatt Wilke (132), junior Hayden Jeanquart (160) and senior Jonas Jandrin (182).

LeFevre also qualified for state, wrestling in the girls division at 100 pounds, while Motquin, Wilke and Jeanquart were Division 2 sectional qualifiers.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol’s two all-conference, first-team selections include freshman Spencer Madsen (126) and sophomore Zak Wrobel (170).

Wrobel also qualified for state this season in Division 2.

Kewaunee senior Mitch Thompson (195), a state champion in Division 3, was named the Packerland’s Wrestler of the Year.
