David Smith Ceramics at Linden Gallery

Linden Gallery in Ellison Bay is currently featuring the ceramics of David Smith, professor of Art at Edgewood College. Smith’s work is influenced by traditional East Asian folk-wares that embody natural beauty and quiet restraint. On display in the gallery are elegant sake and tea bowl sets, as well as vases and platters.

Smith is a master of developing and using wood-fired kilns and has spent over 30 years honing his expertise in this field. Since 1978, Smith’s passion for wood-fired ceramics has allowed him to travel and work with a broad range of artists across the country and world.

In 2005, Smith was invited to present and exhibit at the 3rd World Ceramic Biennale held in Yeoju, Korea. Smith cites this as a transformative experience with his work. In 2006, he was invited to exhibit his work at the Rerun Gallery in Osaka, Japan.

Smith says, “For decades I have created ceramic art that reflects East Asian methods and aesthetics while maintaining a sensibility that is undeniably Western. I have always been intrigued by this cross-fertilization.”

Linden Gallery is open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, and is located at 12001 Mink River Road in Ellison Bay. For more information call 920.854.2487.
