Day of Caring Set to Benefit Local Organizations

United Way of Door County recently announced that Saturday, May 3, 2008 will be its 12th Annual “Day of Caring.” The Day of Caring program was devised as a way to provide support to non-profit organizations experiencing constraints in resources. By volunteering time to this meaningful cause, agencies can quickly realize results on long-standing projects.

“The United Way of Door County is an impact organization. Day of Caring is one of the many ways that United Way mobilizes community resources to create results,” stated Amy Kohnle, executive director.

In previous years, more than twenty human service organizations have benefited from the efforts of the Day of Caring volunteers. Projects have included such diverse tasks as painting rooms and decks, building a fence, and raking playgrounds.

The event starts at 8 am with breakfast donated by McDonald’s at Sturgeon Bay High School or St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Baileys Harbor. At the breakfast sites, participants pick-up their complimentary T-shirts, sharing a few moments with fellow volunteers before heading out to the job sites for the day. (Pre-registration for breakfast is strongly encouraged, especially for the Northern Door location). By 9 am, volunteers will have moved out to their designated site for the day, with the goal of completing their projects between noon and 2 pm.
