DCA Announces 2014 Winter Season

In 2014, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will offer its most extensive winter season to date. With its blend of lively main stage performances, intimate coffeehouse concerts, enlightening lectures, and complimentary film screenings, the auditorium’s diverse winter lineup will energize Door County during the peninsula’s quiet season.

Main Stage Performances

DCA kicks off its 2014 winter season on Dec. 28 with the first-ever Door County Idol Reunion Concert. March 6 will bring a performance by Chicago-based Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, which combines dancing, singing, and story-telling. On April 25, Big Top Chautauqua’s Blue Canvas Orchestra (featuring best-selling author Michael Perry) will present a live performance of Tent Show Radio.

Coffeehouse Concert Series

On Jan. 14, DCA will launch its annual Coffeehouse Concert Series in the Fireside Lobby. This year, the series will offer a variety of music from Jay Whitney and Pete Thelen (Jan. 18), Jimmy Kaplan and friends (Jan. 25), Michael Lee Ammons and the Water Street Hot Shots (Feb. 8), Door County Opry (Feb. 16), and a poetry/music coffeehouse called Words on Fire (Feb. 22). Coffeehouse concerts are $15, general admission; advance ticket reservations are suggested.

Distinguished Lecture Series

DCA will offer its annual Saturday morning Distinguished Lecture Series, this year featuring lectures on everything from bacterial colonies, to political advertising, to fossils, to contemporary American culture. Lectures are free to the public; goodwill donations are accepted.

Movies at the Door

This year’s Movies at the Door series focuses on films with links to Door County. Films will include Emma Toft—One with Nature; Wild Horse, Wild Ride; and Feed the Fish. Films are free to the public; goodwill donations are accepted.

Community Partners Events

Rounding out the season will be several Community Partner events: a songwriters-in-the-round concert on Jan. 10 to benefit Ministry Door County Medical Center, the kickoff ceremony for the annual Door County Reads program on Jan. 20, and HELP of Door County’s annual production of The Vagina Monologues on Feb. 28.
