Eight finalists will compete in the Door County Idol competition this year, which will take place in conjunction with the Fish Creek Winter Festival at 7 pm on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Door Community Auditorium.

The 2011 winner will take home the first place prize of $1,000, sponsored by Cynthia Stiehl, an original supporter of the show.

Last year’s winner, Gibraltar’s Lilli Nelson, wowed the audience with her dramatic performances of “Popular” (from the musical Wicked) and “Mercy” (Aretha Franklin). Nelson will perform her swan song just before handing over the title to the 2011 winner.

Among the finalists are three Southern Door High School teens: April Delfosse, Brittany Hallet, and Sara Mueller. All three are veterans of the stage, performing in the Southern Door musicals and a variety of church, school and community venues.

Trevor Hietpas is the sole male contestant this year, a Sevastopol High School junior. He has performed in several Sevastopol school musicals, most recently starring as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka Jr.

Washington Island will feature two contestants, Patricia Hansen and Ashley Wacaser.

Gibraltar’s hope of retaining the Door County Idol trophy rests in the hands of junior Zephyr Ciesar and sophomore Anya Kopischke. The pair recently finished a One-Act Showcase of Seussical the Musical at the state competition in Oshkosh.

Door Community Auditorium is located at 3926 Hwy 42, Fish Creek. Tickets cost $10 and may be reserved by calling 920.868.2728 or visiting http://www.dcauditorium.org.
