DCA Presents Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, groundbreaking pioneers of country rock music, will take the stage at Door Community Auditorium on July 28 at 8 pm.

Often cited as a catalyst for launching an entire American roots music movement, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band celebrates 50 years together this year. With multi-platinum and gold records, strings of top-10 hits such as “Fishin’ in the Dark” and “Mr. Bojangles,” and multiple Grammy, IBMA, CMA Awards and nominations, the band’s accolades continue to accumulate.

Founded in 1965 as a jug band, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band quickly expanded beyond their southern California roots, traveling the country with a mix of folk, bluegrass, and old-time music. As they evolved, the band gradually incorporated modern rock into their musical mix, infusing tradition with musical innovation and paving the way for other country-rock bands like Alabama and the Eagles.

The band’s groundbreaking Will the Circle Be Unbroken album has been inducted into the U.S. Library of Congress as well as the Grammy Hall of Fame. Today, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (made up of Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen on guitar, drums, harmonica, keyboard, bass, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and vocals) continues to play to sellout crowds, proving they are as central to American music as they have always been.

Tickets for the concert range from $45 to $68. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday – Friday, 12 – 5 pm. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at 920.868.2728, or online at dcauditorium.org.
