DCAL Gallery Features Joubert and Heinrichs

“The Girls Are Steppin’ Out This Morning” by Polly Joubert.

The Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery showcases the artwork of Polly Joubert and Mitch Heinrichs as artists of the week, July 13 – 19. This exhibit begins with a special wine and cheese artist reception on July 14, 12 – 3 pm.

Joubert works with acrylic paint on panels to create highly detailed regional landscapes filled with buildings, people and animals.

“I love old buildings, history and detail,” says Joubert. “I combine these elements in my paintings to tell stories of people at work and play in their everyday surroundings, whether based in historical fact, a contemporary moment in time, or in my imagination.”

Her painting “The Girls Are Steppin’ Out This Morning” was selected for the 2013 Hardy Gallery Juried Exhibit; additionally, she was the Featured Artist at the Landmarks Gallery, Milwaukee, in March 2013.

“The Rigging House” by Mitch Heinrichs.

Heinrichs’s painting “The Rigging House” also was selected for the 2013 Hardy Gallery Juried Exhibit.

Heinrichs enjoys painting in many media, but prefers oil. “I find realism rewarding as a way of judging each individual attempted painting with my interpretation,” he says.

After graduating in 1965 with a degree in advertising and design from MIT, he worked for the advertising department of Boston Store in Milwaukee, and was art director at Country Beautiful Magazine. Currently a full-time resident of Door County, he spends many hours with paintbrush in hand.

The DCAL Gallery, located in the rear courtyard of the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek, is open daily 11 am – 5 daily and 11 am – 3 pm Sunday. The gallery is closed Wednesday. For more information, call 920.868.2288 or visit doorcountyartleague.org.
