Watercolor painter Ruth Sandor is artist of the week for July 16-22 at the Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery.
Art has been part of Sandor’s life since she began taking art and design courses at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign in the 1950s. After retiring in 1997, she established a second home in Door County and rekindled her interest in drawing and painting.
Sandor describes herself as a representational artist, with a particular interest in plein air watercolor painting. Native flowers, insects and Haiku poetry are among her sources, along with the woods, fields and waters of Door County.
“No less than one’s soul is on display – subject, composition, color – all connect the artist to the viewer,” said Sandor. “Ultimately what is seen in each painting is the individual perception of each viewer as a participant in the process. I paint, you decode.”
A new feature at the DCAL Gallery is a monthly draw for a gift certificate for purchasing art at the gallery. The winner of the June $50 gift certificate is Lynn Doneff of Egg Harbor. Visitors to The Gallery are invited to select their favorite artist and complete an Artist’s Choice entry form for a gift certificate drawing held every month. The next drawing is Aug. 13.
The DCAL Gallery is located at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. The gallery is open daily throughout the season through Oct. 23, 11 am – 5 pm. For more information, email [email protected], visit doorcountyartleague.org, or find the Door County Art League and Gallery on Facebook.
