DCAL Honors Master Artist

Jan Forkert was recently named Door County Art League’s 2012-13 Master Artist.

The Door County Art League (DCAL) honored Jan Forkert, recipient of the 2012-13 Master Artist award, at its 26th Annual Members Showcase on Sept. 6 at the Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville. DCAL also recognized recipients of juried art awards and the People’s Choice Award winner.

Forkert, of Ellison Bay, was recognized for the creative 2D and 3D combination effects in her art as well as her contributions to art education in Door County. Many of her pieces reflect her background in watercolor/mixed media painting along with her expertise in silversmithing and enameling.

Forkert’s artwork takes form as freestanding sculptures; framed copper and fine silver enameled wall hangings; jewelry; and large wall panoramas. She has taught at The Clearing and the Peninsula School of Art, where she served as director for five years. Her art was included at the “Reading the Ridges” 25th anniversary show and The Clearing Folk School’s 75th anniversary show. She is represented by Woodwalk Gallery.

Winners for the The Artists’ Showcase are Donna Trupin for “Fantasy Fields” – first place; Roxanne Hanney for “Golden Slumbers” – second place; Tom Seagard for “Steam Mon-Peal” – third place; Jeffry Young for “Lizbeth” and Marcia Nickols for “Queen Anne Crane”— honorable mentions; and Lee Vlaming for “Daddy’s Tool Shed” – People’s Choice. Jurors were Ed Fenendael, Charlene Berg, and Hermke Timm.

The Members Showcase is co-presented by DCAL, Woodwalk Gallery and Door Peninsula Winery at the winery on Highway 42 in Carlsville. For more information visit http://www.doorcountyartleague.org.
