DCAL Updates

Sister Bay artist Craig Blietz stressed the expressive and emotive power of art in his presentation to Door County Art League (DCAL) members at their Oct. 27 meeting at the Gibraltar Fire Station.

Blietz, who is known for his agrarian themed paintings, encouraged DCAL artists to use drawing to capture the energy and mood of a subject, and not focus so much on an accurate transcription of the scene. Blietz said, “You want to use your materials to respond to how you are feeling…that’s what we are charged with as artists.”

DCAL president Elizabeth Heller announced election results during the business session preceding Blietz’s presentation. Mary Hedeen and Lauretta Kelley were named co-presidents; Connie Glowacki will serve as president and her husband Mike will continue as treasurer. Karen De Noto will serve as secretary. Members at large include Mitch Heinrichs, Keith Wickert, and Jane Wineinger.

The board will alternate the monthly member meetings between Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay beginning next April in hopes of increasing attendance, particularly among those living in Sturgeon Bay or further south.

DCAL membership is open to all artists and anybody who wishes to support the visual arts in Door County. For more information about monthly meetings and their gallery, visit
