DCDC’s Mouthguard Day Success

Lilly Fellner gives the camera a big thumbs-up as she gets a new, custom-fit mouthguard during Free Student Athletic Mouthguard Day.

Door County Dental Care hosted its sixth annual Free Athletic Mouthguard Day on July 24. All area student athletes were invited to receive a custom-fit, professionally made, team color-coordinated mouthguard free of charge.

Every year, Door County Dental Care transforms into a workshop of more than 20 staff and volunteers creating athletic mouthguards. Each staff member is involved in the process, taking mouth impressions, creating the molds, and trimming and smoothing out the edges. Dr. Hubbard’s two young sons also volunteered their time this year to help in the process.

The event has grown in popularity over the years, with record participation at this year’s event. Sixty-eight local students were fitted for mouthguards.

“This program has been growing by leaps and bounds every year,” said Dr. Hubbard. “We couldn’t have done it without the time and material donations from Lord’s Dental Studio in De Pere. They’ve been a big part of this event every year.”

In past years, Door County Dental Care has made donations for extra facemasks for softball and baseball programs to help individuals in our community protect themselves.
