DCHS Adds to Staff

Citing the continued growth and sophistication of operations at the Door County Humane Society (DCHS), Executive Director Carrie Counihan recently announced a staff restructuring and the hiring of two individuals to new full-time positions. Carol Boudreau is the animal care coordinator and Ellen Pichler is the new assistant animal care coordinator.

“These are two strong hires with extraordinarily relevant experience,” Counihan said. “With Carol and Ellen, we ensure that DCHS continues the trajectory to be the most responsive and efficient shelter possible. When our new building was completed in September 2013, the board of directors turned their attention to the organizational structure to maximize proficiency of care and long-range business success. Today’s announcement is the happy conclusion of that work.”

The hiring of Boudreau and Pichler represents a realignment of all the positions under Counihan, not a net gain in staff positions. The change opens up an advancement path for part-time workers at the shelter as well as improving continuity of care between the cattery and kennel wings. Lisa Kiessel, board vice president explained, “The two coordinators added today will remove some of the burden Carrie Counihan has borne in personnel and day-to-day details. Her focus now will be directed to contact with our members and friends as we work toward putting the shelter on solid financial footing.”
