DCHS Announces Therapy Dog Program Class Dates

The Door County Humane Society (DCHS) has released their dates for the organization’s next Therapy Dog Program Classes. This program takes household dogs with basic obedience skills and trains them to provide affection and comfort. The program consists of three classes to prepare owners and their canine friends for the Therapy Dog Certification Test. Ron Maloney, of Peninsula Dog Training, donates his time to provide training for the class, and Carol Beck, of Therapy Dog International (TDI), administers the certification testing.

Kennel Coordinator Rachel Asher said, “The program is for any breed of dog, as long as the dog is one year of age or older. Dogs must have a Canine Good Citizenship Award or basic obedience skills, and be up to date vaccinations.”

The program will be held at DCHS, 3475 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay. The dates for the three training sessions are May 10, 17 & 24 at 6 pm. The cost for the program is $50. There are only a few spots still available. To register, call Asher at 920.746.1111.
