DCHS Budget Buoyed by Local Businesses

Presenting the check to DCHS Executive Director Carrie Counihan on June 10, Rochelle Scharpf, marketing coordinator for Shipwrecked announced, “Since Pet Project was so well received, we’ve already begun planning for next year’s brew and Pet Project release.”

Shipwrecked Brew Pub, Avenson Photography and Mojo Rosa’s Restaurant have rallied around the Door County Humane Society (DCHS) and created unique fundraisers.

Shipwrecked Brew Pub debuted an American brown ale appropriately named “Pet Project” in early 2013. Two hundred gallons of the ale were brewed, and sold until depleted. With one dollar from each pint designated for the DCHS, a total of $459 was raised.

Photographer Kelly Avenson traveled outside her Third Avenue studio to the home of pet owners. Forty dollars from each booking was donated to DCHS; a total of $200 was raised.

In mid-April, Mojo Rosa’s Restaurant hosted a beer pairing party, with $5 from every dinner going to DCHS. Throughout April, 50 cents from any glass of Tall Grass beer was donated to DCHS. Mojo Rosa’s contributed $193.50 to the shelter.

In 2013, 95 percent of the shelter’s $412,000 annual budget must be raised from individual and business donors. “We are so appreciative of the many ways that our community responds to this need,” commented DCHS director Carrie Counihan.
