DCHS Holds First Kitten Shower

The gentle hands of DCHS staff person Colleen McCartney help a tiny motherless kitten named Jelly Bean.

The Door County Humane Society (DCHS) will hold its first-ever “kitten shower” on May 10 from 12 – 2 pm at the facility located at 3475 County Road PD, Sturgeon Bay.

Spring is kitten season at DCHS, a time when many new litters of kittens are brought in or born at the Humane Society. Five litters have been born thus far in 2014 with many more anticipated in the next three months. The arrival of so many kittens depletes the specialized supplies at the shelter, so like a baby shower held for an expectant mother, DCHS is sponsoring a kitten shower to prepare for these newborns.

The shower will feature family friendly games, 50-50 raffle, prizes and treats. For a $10 donation, shower attendees may name a kitten. Participants are encouraged to bring items on the kitten registry: scoopable cat litter, pate-style canned cat food, human baby food (strained chicken), bleach, paper towels, kitten milk replacer, or cash donation.
