DCHS Luncheon Highlights Naturalist Roy Lukes

The Door County Historical Society (DCHS) will host a luncheon program Feb. 26, 11 am, featuring Charlotte Lukes presenting “Roy Lukes: Renowned Naturalist.” The program will look at her late husband’s wide interest in natural science and how he turned to this after his days of playing in several traveling dance bands.

It will show the steps Roy Lukes took to become a self-taught naturalist through his involvement with many nonprofit organizations and extensive volunteer work. A major part of the program will be about The Ridges Sanctuary and his position as its first manager and resident naturalist.

Charlotte and Roy were married in 1972 and worked as a team to help the Door County community learn, appreciate and preserve the valuable natural resources here.

The luncheon will be held at the Door Country Event Venue, 7153 Hwy 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay. Registration is $20 for DCHS members and $25 for the general public, and luncheon reservations must be made by Feb. 21. Program-only tickets are also available.
