The Door County Maritime Museum adds more festivity to this holiday season with the “Merry-Time Festival of Trees.” This festival runs from Nov. 17 through Dec. 11 and will feature artificial trees decorated by local organizations and businesses. Visitors are invited to see the trees during regular museum hours and have the opportunity to enter a raffle in the hopes of winning their favorite tree. Each tree will be decorated with ornaments and other gifts appropriate to the sponsor.
“For example, a hardware store could choose small hardware items or gift certificates to place on the tree with traditional ornaments,” said Trudy Herbst, the museum director of development. “Larger items could be placed as ‘gifts’ beneath the tree.”
To encourage organization and business participation, awards will be presented for the trees garnering the highest number of raffle tickets.
Desh also said that during the festival, every day will be “kid’s day.” Every child accompanied by an adult will receive free admission to museum (the regular adult admission of $8 will apply).
Other events scheduled during the Festival of Trees include “Santa on the Tug” on Dec. 1, as well as a Speakers Series presentation by author Rochelle Pennington entitled, “World War I Christmas Miracle,” on Nov. 29.
