DCMM Offers Cruise to Pottawatomie Lighthouse

Door County Maritime Museum’s summer cruises will visit the historic Pottawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island. The trip departs Gills Rock at 12 pm on July 22 aboard the excursion boat Island Clipper (boarding begins at 11:30 am).

A buffet lunch of broasted chicken, vegetarian lasagna and side salads will be served, along with soft drinks. Once on Rock Island, passengers will undertake the one-mile uphill hike to reach Wisconsin’s oldest lighthouse.

The Pottawatomie Light protects the passage between Wisconsin’s Rock Island and Michigan’s St. Martins Island to the north. In 1858 the original tower and dwelling were razed. The wrong mortar was used during the original construction and caused severe structural damage that could not be repaired. The present day 33′ x 31′ dwelling with an 8′ square wooden tower were constructed to replace the original structures.

Museum member tickets are $70 for adults and $40 for children. Guest tickets are $85 for adults and $50 for children.
