DCU Girls Swimmers Fifth at Neenah Sectional

The Door County United (DCU) cooperative girls high school swim team placed fifth out of 14 teams in Saturday’s WIAA Division I sectional at Neenah High School.

Appleton North (363) won the sectional team title, followed by Neenah (300), Bay Port (257), the Green Bay Southwest Co-op (240) and DCU (231) rounding out the top five.

“We had at least one swimmer [finish in the top eight to get on the] podium in all but two events of the meet,” said DCU head coach Kelly Oram-Rankin.

Christy Braun, Julia Michalski and Regan Kasten, all of Sturgeon Bay, and Cassie Rankin of Sevastopol were among DCU’s top scorers for the sectional.

Braun qualified for state after placing fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 13.34 seconds) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.08), with her times faster than the state-qualifying standards in Division 1 for both events.

Sectional champions automatically qualify for state, as do the top 18 times of those not placing first from among the six Division 1 sectionals.

The WIAA Division 1 girls state swimming and diving competition is set for Nov. 12 at the Waukesha South Natatorium. 

“We are excited to see how Christy Braun will compete at the state meet on Saturday, Nov. 12,” Oram-Rankin said..
