Deadline Almost Here!

The Peninsula Pulse, once again sponsoring the Hal Grutzmacher Writer’s Exposé and the 5th Annual Photography Jubilee, would like to extend an invitation to all those interested in submitting poems, prose, or photographs for consideration in this year’s contests. The contests attempt to capture the spirit of the late Hal Grutzmacher, a professor and Door County bookstore owner, by offering commentary and encouragement to promising writers and photographers.

In addition to the opportunity to be published in the August 1, 2008 Literary Edition of the Pulse, which will showcase the most notable entries for each category, entrants are also eligible for cash prizes and gift certificates from the following contest sponsors: Clay Bay Pottery, Roger and Sharon Grutzmacher, Passtimes Books, The Peninsula Bookman, Peninsula Music Festival and the Peninsula Pulse.

The deadline for submissions is July 4, 2008, and all entries should be accompanied by a cover letter including the author’s name, address, phone number, email, and a 25-50 word biography. So that the contest may be judged without regard to the author or photographer, names should not appear on the actual piece of work. Prose should be double-spaced and in a simple 12-point font. Prose entries of less than 2,000 words are limited to three submissions per person (note: prose submissions may be subject to minor editing before printing). Poetry entries should be limited to three poems with not more than one poem per page. Previously published pieces will not be considered. The writing submissions must be submitted via email or on disc rather than hard copy, while photographs are only accepted as prints. Feel free to submit images taken with a digital camera; however, please print a photograph that is between 4” x 6” and 8” x 12”. Also, please limit photography submissions to five per person. Photographs will not be returned.
