Deggendorf and Umentum Earn Golden Heart Awards

Crossroads at Big Creek volunteers Bobby Deggendorf and Steve Umentum earned the WPS Environmental Stewardship Award at the Door County Volunteer Center’s 2020 Virtual Golden Heart Award Celebration.

These educators created an after-school outdoor-immersion opportunity at Crossroads for their fourth-grade students. Each Wednesday last spring, the inaugural group of 20 to 30 Explorers walked from Sunrise Elementary School to Crossroads. After a quick snack, they participated  in a loosely structured group activity, often taking advantage of seasonal events.

Golden Heart Award recipients receive donation credit to give to a local organization of their choice. Deggendorf and Umentum donated their $500 award to Crossroads to purchase plant material for its restoration efforts.
