Demonstration in the Courtyard

“Female Gold” by Rebecca Korth.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries will host a reception for Exhibit I on May 24, 4 – 7 pm. Exhibit I includes painters Judi Ekholm, George Shipperley and Rebecca Korth; jeweler Michael Michaud; sculptor James G. Moore and glass artist Shawn Messenger. The featured artists will briefly speak about their work at 5 pm, and wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

The main level of the gallery will include a selection of colorful floral and landscape oil paintings by Ekholm and a collection of oil pastels by Shipperley.

“This new body of work for 2014 includes paintings inspired by the landscapes of Door County, Hawaii, and the Florida Everglades. It was the year to explore new themes, new places, and new adventures,” says Ekholm.

Shipperley’s paintings are mostly inspired by nature, though most of his work is imaginary. “I prefer this method because it allows me the unlimited freedom of design and composition, and not just the rendering of a photograph,” he says.

Messenger recently completed a number of new pieces in her signature style of blown glass impressionistic versions of flowers and landscapes.

The featured jeweler, Michaud, well-known throughout the country for his botanical jewelry, has a new collection of bronze, sterling silver, gold, natural stones and pearls.

“Poppies of Happiness” by Judi Ekholm.

Moore will also be featured in the main gallery with new work expressing his love of nature.

The courtyard gallery will be filled with Korth’s realistic oil paintings. “I enjoy painting whimsical still life with birds in realism, chiaroscuro and trompe l’oeil styles,” says Korth.

On May 25, Shipperley will give an oil pastel painting demonstration from 1 – 3 pm in the courtyard. There is no charge for this event and the public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Exhibit I will be displayed until June 11. Edgewood Orchard Galleries, open 10 am – 5 pm daily, is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road, midway between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. For more information, call 920.868.3579 or visit edgewoodorchard.com.
