Destroyers Face Tough Sheboygan Team in Playoffs

After a 24-16 loss to the M&M Timberjacks on a windy and rainy Oct. 12 at Baileys Harbor Rec. Park, the fifth-seeded Door County Destroyers will face the fourth-seeded Sheboygan County Rebels in Howards Grove at 6 pm on Oct. 19 in a first-round playoff game.

The Destroyers led the first three quarters 16-7, only to see the Timberjacks pull ahead in the fourth quarter. The Destroyers were held to a total of 120 yards offense.

The Timberjacks end the regular season at 8-2 with the North Division title and a bye in the first round of playoffs in the semi-pro Wisconsin State Football League. They will play the winner of the Oct. 19 game in the second round of playoffs on Oct. 26, and the winner of that game will face the winner of the No. 3 seeded Washington County Untouchables and No. 2 Manitowoc County Mariners in a Nov. 2 contest to determine the season champion.

The Destroyers (6-2) lost to the Rebels (8-2) 34-3 during the first game of the regular season on July 20.

The two teams enter the playoffs with statistics each should be wary of. The Rebels have the top scoring defense in the league, allowing only 73 points in 10 games. The Destroyers have the top turnover defense, with 39 turnovers forced in 10 games.
