Destroyers Win with Field Goal

The Door County Destroyers pulled off another win in a close 36 – 34 game against division rivals the Outagamie County Outlaws on Aug. 24 in Little Chute.

The Destroyers won the exciting game with five lead changes that ended with Destroyers’ kicker Cory Bougie connecting on a 35-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to put the Destroyers ahead for good.

Defensive end Bryan Beachler returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown and Safety Andre Wilson scored on a 60-yard interception.

Running back Whit McAfee rushed for a season high 174 yards and a score. He and fullback Eric Dennis combined for more than 200 yards rushing.

With the win, the Destroyers improve to 3-2 on the season, one game behind the M&M Timberjacks of Menominee, Mich., in the North Division. The Outlaws fall to 2-3 and third place in the North.

The WSFL has a league-wide bye in week 7, but the Destroyers will be back in action on Sept. 7, hosting the Manitowoc County Mariners in what is being called the Lake Shore Battle. The game will be played at Memorial Field in Sturgeon Bay, with a start time of 7 pm.
