Dickinson Poetry Reading Dedicated to Veterans

Peter SherrillOn Nov. 11 at 7 pm, the Dickinson Poetry Series welcomes Green Bay poet Peter Sherrill. While not a veteran, Sherrill wants to honor all our veterans on this Veterans’ Day with gratitude for their sacrifices. This reading is dedicated to veterans everywhere.

Sherrill was an English major long before Garrison Keillor founded the Professional Organization of English Majors, generally known by its acronym POEM. He also was ahead of Keillor in his discovery that the terms “Professional” and “English Major” are usually contradictory.

To that end, Sherrill has earned his keep as a physician, wandering from family practice through sports medicine and emergency medicine before settling into a career in occupational and preventive medicine. He works for Aurora Medical Group in Green Bay.

He’s been writing through it all. He has poems, reviews, articles, essays and even a chapter in a medical text to his credit. He has no chapbooks to his credit, since he hasn’t figured out yet what he’d want to say in a work of that length.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a renowned local or regional poet followed by an open mic, providing an opportunity for others to read their poetry. A reception follows so attendees can meet the poets. The public is welcome and there is no charge. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy. 42 in north Ephraim.
