Dickinson Series Starts Anew

Estella Lauter

Estella Lauter is the featured reader at the Dickinson Poetry Series on April 9 at 7 pm at the UU Fellowship in north Ephraim.

Soon after she and her husband Chuck bought land in Door County in 1970, Lauter began to write poetry. Since her retirement, she has reveled in Door County’s writing community, publishing three chapbooks and enjoying membership in three local poetry workshops. Her poems have won awards from WFOP, Wisconsin Writers Association, and the Peninsula Pulse. She tied for first prize in the 2009 Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry contest, and her work has been published in several literary journals, including NEW Voices, Verse Wisconsin and Wisconsin People and Ideas. Poems have also appeared in several anthologies, including The Nature of Door, Sweeping Beauty, and Echolocations.

Lauter was appointed Poet Laureate of Door County for 2013-2015. She lives with her husband on 31 acres of woodland and does whatever she can to promote peace and justice.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a local or regional poet followed by an open mic and reception. The public is welcome and there is no charge. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Highway 42 in north Ephraim. For more information call 920.854.7559.
