Discover the “Lure of Alaska”

March 14, for their fifth program of the season, the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of Northern Door present a real film adventure with a journey to Alaska. The show will be presented live by award-winning wildlife film producer Dale Johnson.

Johnson has been profiled in National Wildlife magazine and additionally his film production for the National Forest Service and has been recognized by a Gold Medal at New York’s International Film Festival.

The film’s focus is not the Alaska frequented by tourists, but rather, often unexplored landscapes much like the way it once was across the state. The wildlife is still here, but often, more reclusive and not easily seen along the highways – a disappointment to casual tourists. In Lure of Alaska viewers will see grizzlies fishing for salmon, competing with each other for the best positions and places.

The show will also include stops in Anchorage, population 300,000 – almost half the population of the entire state! There’s a visit to the Matanuska Valley, a surprising agricultural region with about 900 farms, stops at the crown jewel of Alaska’s park system, Denali National Park, as well as America’s largest – the Wrangell-Saint Elias.

Showtime is 7:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Sister Bay. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Admission price is $7; children under 18 are admitted free. An admissions pass, good for up to six shows may be purchased for $36. (One film remains for the season, destination: Bhutan.) Refreshments will be available during intermission.
