Distinct Artists, Distinct Work

Painting by Larry Rudolech.

The work of Lois Eakin, Larry Rudolech and Ann Singsaas, as well as one glass artist, Mary Melinda Wellsandt will open Fine Line Design’s Gallery’s first exhibit of the 2014 season.

Exhibit I is currently on display at Fine Line, and the public is invited to an artist reception on May 24 from 4 to 7 pm. An artist demonstration featuring Eakin follows on May 25 from 11 am to 2 pm.

Eakin says that she paints objects that interest her for their uniqueness, not necessarily because of the beauty they may or may not possess. Using the technique of chiaroscuro, she seeks to lead the viewer’s eye through her paintings by the use of light.

Oil painter Rudolech has spent most of his life admiring and studying the simple, natural beauty of the southern Indiana countryside. “As I paint, I don’t feel I need to paint every detail, nor do I want to,” Rudolech says.

As a former field biologist, it might not come as a surprise that Singsaas’ art is inspired by the world around her. “I enjoy playing with all elements of art – composition, contrast, line, texture, rhythm, repetition, value, form, and color – they all contain infinite possibilities,” she says.

Wellsandt’s current work uses functional glass as surface to explore. The process includes the use of a sandblaster to carve away the glass surface, and then permanents paints or enamels will in the negative space. Her imagery is derived from nature, whether they are stylized stencils of floral designs or original photography.

Fine Line’s Exhibit I is scheduled to run through June 3. For more information visit finelinedesignsgallery.com.
