Docent-led Hikes Offered at The Clearing

The Clearing Folk School will again offer docent-led hikes covering the history, folklore and landscape of the school and its 128-acre property. These interpretive hiking tours will visit the historic buildings and campus, and are led by volunteers. The two-hour hikes begin at 1 pm on select Saturdays and Sundays through October.

No pre-registration is necessary, hikers are asked to meet at 1 pm at The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center, located at 12171 Garrett Bay Road. Maps are also available there for self-guided tours. The terrain is rugged in places, and sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

Docent-led hikes will be held on the following days: June 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30; and July 7, 8, 14, 15, 22, 28, and 29. Dates for August through October will be announced in July.

In addition, Campus Open House hours are every Saturday and Sunday (May – October) from 12 to 4 pm. At the open house, the public is invited to visit The Clearing’s historic campus area. The campus area is closed to visitors during the week for the privacy of students during resident retreat classes from May through October.

Visitors are welcomed every day to the Jens Jensen Visitor Center Monday through Friday from 8 am – 4 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 4 pm.
