The public hearing for a proposed Dollar General store that was postponed last year due to COVID-19 concerns has now been scheduled for Feb. 25, 6 pm, with Zoom and call-in options for participants.
The meeting will start with a presentation by the developer, Peter Oleszczuk of Midwest Property Development. Participants will each have three minutes to speak, and a spokesperson with a special-interest group will have 10 minutes.
The developer has proposed the construction of a 9,100-square-foot store on a 2.5-acre parcel of vacant land where Highway 42 meets Hillside Road just south of the Egg Harbor Fun Park.
Opposition to the store was formalized last year by a group calling itself Eggs Against Dollar General. Concerns about the project include the appropriateness of the chain store’s big-box presence in Egg Harbor, a negative impact on locally owned businesses, numerous traffic-safety concerns at the intersection of Highway 42 and Hillside Road, and the effect of the store’s lighting on the night sky.
