Donations Sought to Replace Scoreboards

A fundraising drive is now underway to replace the current baseball-field and north softball-field scoreboards at Sevastopol Town Park.

The Town of Sevastopol and the Sevastopol School District, which have been working on joint projects to improve the park’s baseball and softball facilities, are looking for donations to replace the scoreboards, which are more than 30 years old and can be difficult to read because not all the lights are functioning.

“The town and district have previously put money in for all prior upgrades,” said Sevastopol athletic director Brooke Tanck. “We are hoping this can be funded solely through donations.”

With the scoreboards estimated to cost $10,000 to $20,000 each, the fundraising campaign, which runs through Sept. 20, has a goal of $35,000 to purchase and install the scoreboards in the spring of 2024.

As now proposed, the new softball scoreboard would have a similar design to the existing one, but the new baseball scoreboard would differ from the current design by being able to display the score by inning through nine innings and include a pitch count.

More than 125 games are played each year at Sevastopol Town Park, which is used by the Institute Cubs, Sevastopol High School baseball and softball teams, and Mighty Pioneers youth baseball and softball teams.

Those wishing to contribute to the scoreboard campaign may pay by check at the Sevastopol Town Hall or online at app.myteamworks.org/sevastopoltownparkscoreboard.

There is no additional fee for online donations, which will automatically get a receipt. Donations submitted in person via cash or check will receive a donation receipt from the town by mail.

Donor Levels

The fundraising campaign has five donor levels: Friend ($1-$350), Supporter ($351-$749), Booster ($750-$1,999), Sponsor ($2,000-$9,999) and Champion ($10,000 or more).

All donors will have their names mentioned in the school district and town newsletters. Supporter-level donors will receive framed donation certificates, and Booster-, Sponsor- and Champion-level donors will have their names placed on a plaque displayed at Sevastopol Town Park. Champion-level donors will also have their business/personal names placed on a scoreboard and be presented with Sevastopol jackets.
