Donna Brown Exhibits Encaustic Works

“Small Wonders” by Donna Brown.

Donna Brown, Baileys Harbor artist and owner of White Barn Studio Gallery, will exhibit her newest endeavors at Base Camp Coffee Bar. Brown feels the ambiance of this café is the perfect venue for her unique works.

On display are sculptural constructions utilizing encaustics, an ancient art form that incorporates beeswax with Damar resin and pigment. Although Brown has worked off and on with the process for over a decade, it was not until last summer that she became intrigued with the possibilities these materials possess as a translucent medium for paper and collage. Her studio has become an “inspirational disaster,” a pile of paper, leaves, bird nests, branches, and birch bark along with griddles and pots of hot beeswax.

Encaustic photo and print collages, sculptural works, and earrings, as well as paintings in oil and cold wax will be on display through mid-October.

Base Camp, open daily at 7:30 am, is located under Ecology Sports at the corner of Highway 42 and Hill Road in Sister Bay.
