Donor Breast Milk Now Offered to DCMC Babies

In conjunction with Breastfeeding Awareness Month, the Door County Medical Center (DCMC) announces that donor breast milk will soon be available to its inpatient babies.

The screened and pasteurized donor milk comes from the Mother’s Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes, certified by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. This service has been a passion project of registered nurse and DCMC lactation consultant Jessica Skinner, who leads lactation and childbirth programming.

“I can’t fully express how much it means to me to be able to provide this service to our families in this community,” Skinner said. “I’m simply overjoyed at the prospect.”For now, DCMC plans to dispense milk only to newborns who are inpatient at its Sturgeon Bay facility. Those looking to purchase donor milk should go to HSHS St. Mary’s in Green Bay. To donate milk, visit milkbankwgl.org.
