Door Community Auditorium Embraces Winter

The snow is snowing and the wind is blowing, but the fire is burning bright and warm in the Door Community Auditorium (DCA). As winter embraces the peninsula, everyone is invited to participate in two very special series hosted by DCA during the coldest months of the year.

First initiated in 2004, the St. Norbert Distinguished Lecture Series is a collaboration between the De Pere, Wisconsin college and DCA. With a faculty of renowned professors, St. Norbert College is a jewel of the Midwest. To provide the professors a forum whereby they could share their expertise on international topics was an idea that bore the fruit of knowledge.

The 2009 lecture series begins on Saturday, January 17 at 9 am with a politically charged topic, “The President and the Supremes: Where Will Our Court Go?” With the inauguration of Barack Obama, the question of who will replace retiring justices becomes a very important issue. In his discussion of the president and the court, Dr. Charles Jacobs will address the legacies of current justices, the future of the court, and how the decisions of the court will impact the citizens of the United States. In addition to teaching, Dr. Jacobs, Assistant Professor of Judicial Process and American Politics, serves as the academic coach for St. Norbert College’s mock trial team.

Also kicking off its winter schedule on January 17, the DCA Fireside Coffeehouse Concerts will feature Kevin Van Ess and The Talk of The Town Trio. The 7 pm performance will include some of the hottest Dixieland and swing music north of New Orleans, and special salutes to the jazz greats.

The St. Norbert Distinguished Lecture Series is free and open to the public. Tickets for the Fireside Coffeehouse Concert Series are $14, and are available at the Door Community Auditorium box office, by phone (920.868.2728), or via the http://www.dcauditorium.org. Seating is limited and patrons are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. Ecology Sports Base Camp Coffee Bar will provide refreshments for purchase at both series.
