Door County 4-H’ers Bring Home Horse Show Honors

Door County 4-H members recently competed in the Wisconsin 4-H State Horse Expo & Gymkhana events at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis.
The Gymkhana event was held Sept. 7 – 9, and three Door County youth participated in the speed event: Lucy Bley, Crystal Drager and Carmen Jorns. These riders brought home several honors:
• Lucy Bley: Top Ten in Barrels, Poles, LT Special, and Key Race.
• Crystal Drager: Top Ten in Barrels.
• Carmen Jorns: Top Ten in Poles and Key Race; Grand Champion for Barrels Plug Race.
The Horse Expo was held Sept 13 – 16 and another group of riders participated, including: Alyson Bailey, Crystal Drager, Hanna Michalsen, Mackenzie Minten, Mariah Minten, Emily Rass, Trevor Smith, Ali Sommerfeldt, and Courtney Tebo. This group also brought home many honors:
• Alyson Bailey: Top Ten in Western Riding and Hunt Equitation; Reserve Champion for Trail; Grand Champion for Woodworking-Horse Related.
• Crystal Drager: Top Ten in Stock Seat Equitation, Trail and Western Riding; Grand Champion for Hunt Equitation.
• Hanna Michalsen: Top Ten in Hunt Showmanship, Hunt Equitation and Trail.
• Mackenzie Minten: Top Ten in Pony Western Showmanship, Obstacle Driving, Pleasure Driving and Reinsmanship; Reserve Champion for Pony Hunt Showmanship.
• Mariah Minten: Top Ten in Western Pleasure and Stock Seat Equitation.
• Emily Rass: Top Ten in Obstacle Driving, Pleasure Driving, and Reinsmanship.
• Trevor Smith: Top Ten in Western Pleasure, Trail and Western Riding; Reserve Champion for Stock Seat Equitation.
• Ali Sommerfeldt: Top Ten in Hunt Showmanship.
• Courtney Tebo: Top Ten in Pony Hunt Pleasure, Pony Western Pleasure, Pony Stock Seat Equitation and Trail.
Over 700 horses and 900 youth participate in the Wisconsin 4-H Horse Expo.
