Door County Activities: “My Goodness, My Guinness” Gourmet Dinner & Cooking Demonstration

The year 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the creation of Guinness beer, and Inn at Kristofer’s owner Terri Milligan is sharing the celebration with those who attend her Friday, March 27 “My Goodness, My Guinness” gourmet dinner and cooking class event.

“Today, over 10 million glasses of Guinness are served daily throughout the world!” explains Chef Milligan. In recognition of the overwhelming popularity of Guinness and its monumental anniversary, “I have created a special menu which incorporates Guinness beer into a variety of gourmet recipes,” says Milligan. “And to conclude the meal, I will use Ireland’s other terrific beverage, Bailey’s Irish Cream, in the preparation of a wonderful Irish Cream chocolate mousse.”

The event begins with a complimentary “Black Velvet” beverage consisting of champagne and Guinness. After the one hour cooking demonstration, participants will be seated in the restaurant’s main floor dining room to enjoy a first course of delicious oysters with steamed cabbage and smoked bacon napped with a Guinness flavored hollandaise sauce. The salad of organic spring greens will be topped with thinly sliced smoked salmon and steamed asparagus with a mustard vinaigrette. Dinner will be succulent pork tenderloin which has been marinated in Guinness, garlic, fresh rosemary and a hint of honey. The pork will be grilled and finished with a wild mushroom sauce and Guinness onion rings. For dessert, it is a Bailey’s Irish Cream mousse tower, finished with a homemade bittersweet chocolate sauce and crème anglaise.

The price of $59 per person includes the cooking demonstration class, five course Guinness dinner with choice of wine or Guinness beer, a copy of all the recipes and sale tax. The special dinner and class begins at 6 pm and is limited to 20 people.

The Inn at Kristofer’s is open nightly for dinner beginning at 5 pm. The restaurant is closed Tuesday evenings through mid May. From May through October, the restaurant is open nightly.
