Door County Activities: St. Norbert Distinguished Lecture Series

In many different ways, the process of globalization has accelerated in recent years, and the ramifications for the United States economy are not encouraging. The fourth in a series of lectures presented by St. Norbert College in collaboration with the Door Community Auditorium, Dr. Wolfgang Grassl will present “Dramatic Shifts in the World Economy: Can America Cope?” on Saturday, March 7 at 9 am. The discussion will address the economic situation across the global frontier.

A researcher and educator for 30 years, Dr. Grassl has been involved with institutions around the world. His particular areas of research include product policy, international marketing, ontology of economics and business, and the trans-culturalism and theory of cultural exchange.

Based on his extensive research Dr. Grassl stated, “In many industries United States-based firms have lost market positions. But more importantly, American leverage over the rules of international trade and commerce has drastically declined. The future adoption of International Accounting Standards as a replacement for U.S.-GAAP (United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) is, but one example.”

Grassl continued, “Problems are enhanced by the recent turmoil of American financial markets.” His lecture draws the emerging picture of the world economy and is meant for a public of interested, non-economists who are consumers, investors, and participants on many markets that have now opened to global competition.

The St. Norbert Distinguished Lecture Series is free and open to the public. The final lecture in the series will be presented on March 21. Entitled “Memory and the Aging Brain: Insights from the Lab to the Clinic” will be presented by Dr. David Bailey.
