Door County Art: Amish Quilt Show & Sale in Sister Bay

The Autumn Amish Quilt Show & Sale will be held at the Sister Bay Village Hall in downtown Sister Bay from 9 am – 5 pm Thursday through Sunday, October 9 through 12, 2008.

Featured at this autumn quilt show will be over 80 Amish quilts in a variety of popular colors and patterns. All quilting is done by hand as is the Amish custom, and Sue and Joe Jarosh, owners of the Jacksonport Craft Cottage, have expanded their Amish quilt sources, traveling to a five state area for new quilt designs from over 15 Amish families this year. Full-sized quilts, baby quilts and many queen and king-sized quilts will be available.

In addition to the Amish quilts a wide selection of Amish made wall hangings in a variety of sizes, patterns and colors will be on hand. Pillows, table runners, place mats, pot holders, table centers, spice mats, rugs, Amish dolls and many other interesting gifts hand crafted by the Amish will also be on display and for sale.

Featured this year will be a wide variety of beautifully made Amish baskets in a variety of shapes and sizes for many uses in the home – all handcrafted by the Yoder family.

In addition to the quilts and crafts, a selection of books on quilting patterns, Amish quilt trends and tips for quilters, Amish recipe books, as well as paperbacks highlighting aspects of Amish life will be for sale.

The Jacksonport Craft Cottage is pleased to include Quilter’s Quest of the Country Walk Shops in Sister Bay as part of the Amish Quilt Show. Owner Linda Batley will be on hand to answer quilting questions, and she’ll also have a variety of projects to share with guests, most of which are kid friendly.

An entry fee of $1 will be charged at the door for Quilt Show entry. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free but must be attended by an adult at all times.

The Amish Quilt Show & Sale is sponsored by the Jacksonport Craft Cottage, now celebrating 25 years. For information call 920.823.2288, email [email protected] or visit http://www.jacksonportcraftcottage.com.
