Door County Art League Celebrates Successful Season

Artwork by Mona Barden

The Gallery of the Door County Art League, coordinated by Penny Pfister and Sherry Mutchler, will close its season at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek on October 16. Open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, the gallery features over 35 artists in a variety of different mediums. The artists highlighted the final week of the season will be Mona Barden and Lauretta Kelley.

Barden of Ellison Bay, a member of the National Colored Pencil Society, displays attention to detail and creativity in her colorful pencil drawings. Door County flowers and nature are the focus of her drawings.

Kelley’s soft and soothing oil paintings elicit a sense of peace in the viewer. Door County water scenes are often the focus of her studio and plein air work. She has exhibited at the Francis Hardy Gallery and Link Gallery in Fish Creek.

According to Mutchler, Bob Kenyon will be joining the gallery in a leadership capacity in 2012. The gallery is also seeking interns to assist with operations next year. Thirty-nine spaces will be available to DCAL members who want to participate. Preference will be given to current participants and interns. Participants must be members-in-good-standing of DCAL as of April 30, 2011. Interested individuals can sign-up for a space at the gallery or email a request to [email protected].

Membership in the DCAL is available to all persons interested in promoting and enjoying the creative arts in Door County. For more information visit
