Door County Art League Presents Barbara Sweeney

The Gallery of the Door County Art League will welcome Barbara Sweeney, a new member of the league, as Artist of the Week. She and artist Marilyn Olson will display at the gallery beginning July 17.

Sweeny began painting five years ago, influenced by local artist Ed Fenendael and art coach Thea Kovac in Milwaukee. Florals are her forte due to gardens that she enjoys in Door County and her home in Fox Point, Wisconsin. Door County is “an atmosphere conducive to the emerging artist,” she said. Upon retirement, Sweeny built a new home in Door County to accommodate her studio, Sunrise Shores Studio, available by appointment by calling 920.495.9354.

Olson began her artistic career in oils, but since retirement has concentrated on watercolors. Mentored by Tom Trausch in Woodstock, Illinois, she enjoys the “sparkle and spontaneity” of watercolors. A retired art teacher of over 20 years, she resides primarily in Genoa City, Illinois, but enjoys frequent trips to Door County. She finds painting her signature florals a “relaxing” experience, but also enjoys painting landscapes and buildings.

The Gallery of the Door County Art League is located at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek and is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
