Door County Art News: Exploring Ceramics With a “Day About Clay”

The Peninsula School of Art invites the public to explore the art of ceramics – from creation to completed works – on Saturday, November 15. All events are free and open to the public.

From 10 am – 2 pm, the school’s monthly Family Day encourages visitors of all ages to create bowls for the Soup! Project. This is the third year that Peninsula School of Art will sponsor Soup! – a benefit for Feed My People. Anyone who wishes to make a bowl may do so free of charge. The bowls will then be sold on February 7 in the school’s Guenzel Gallery.

Also as part of Family Day, David and Jeanne Aurelius, of Clay Bay Pottery in Ellison Bay, will demonstrate their ceramic techniques at the potter’s wheel in the school’s ceramics studio.

From 5 – 7 pm, the public is welcome to attend the opening reception for the “Door County Potters’ Guild & Friends” exhibit. About 100 works, displaying a wide variety of styles and techniques, will be available for sale throughout the show, which runs through January 3. The opening night offers a rare opportunity for “cash-and-carry” purchases (normally exhibited works must remain until a show closes) through the one-night-only “Side Show.”

Peninsula School of Art and Guenzel Gallery are located at 3900 County Hwy F, in Fish Creek. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm. http://www.peninsulaartschool.com.
