Door County Art Scene: Three Jewelry Artists and Three Causes

The three resident jewelers at J. Jeffrey Taylor in Fish Creek, Jeff Taylor, Jen Hough and Carrie Anschutz, will debut their most recent works in a “3 Artists, 3 Causes” holiday show November 28 through December 31. The show will include a special “meet the artists” reception on December 4 from 5 – 8 pm at the gallery.

Due to the overwhelming support from the community for their art, the jewelers have decided now is an essential time to give back. Each of the three jewelers has picked a charity to donate a portion of their respective proceeds.

Jeff Taylor.

Jeff Taylor, who has been creating jewelry for over 35 years, will be showing some new designs, featuring a combination of 14kt/22kt yellow gold and sterling silver with use of rainbow colored sapphires, drusy quartz and Australian opal. Taylor’s charity, “Feed and Clothe My People,” is a community-based, volunteer program that exists to provide food and clothing to residents of Door County who are in need.

Jen Hough.

Jen Hough, the resident silversmith, has been showing her work at the gallery for the past three years. The majority of her work is done in sterling silver, gemstones and pearls. She describes her work as having a very “architectural” yet whimsical feel. Hough’s charity, the Wellness Center of Door County Inc., is a non-profit organization that provides affordable and confidential health care for men and women in an educational environment that respects the dignity and choices of each person.

Carrie Anschutz.

Carrie E. Anschutz has been working with the Taylors for four years and started showing her work in the 2008 season. PMC (Precious Metal Clay) is pure silver that she sculpts into organic and contemporary designs incorporating pearls, gemstones and an eclectic selection of beads from around the world. Carrie’s charity is the Door County Humane Society, which provides a safe haven for lost or homeless pets while working to reunite them with their owners or place them with a new loving family.

The gallery is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10 am. Refreshments will be served at the artists’ reception on December 4 and free gift wrapping will be offered through the entire month of December.
