Door County Arts: DCAL Demonstrations and Monthly Meeting Upcoming

“Blue Car,” water mixable oil, by Door County Art League member Barbara Kenyon.

Several demonstrations are planned at the Gallery of the Door County Art League, located at the back of the Top of the Hill Shops, Highway 42 and County F on Spring Road in Fish Creek.

Beverly Hart Branson, who works in watercolor, ink, pencil, oil, and acrylic, will be demonstrating on Saturday, September 20. Her pieces are also in the League’s 22nd Annual Fall Juried Exhibit at Trattoria Dal Santo in Sturgeon Bay.

On Sunday, September 21, Barbara Kenyon will be showing how she works in water mixable oils. Kenyon, the 2008 DCAL Volunteer of the Year, enjoys painting old barns to preserve them, as she feels they are disappearing from the landscape.

Penny Pfister plans to work on a watercolor as she demonstrates on Monday, September 22. Pfister, who enjoys painting Door County flowers, fruit, and scenes, will show how she uses color to bring pictures to life. Along with Branson and nearly 30 other league members, Pfister has work in the 22nd Annual Fall Juried Exhibit.

Additional demonstrations at the gallery include Pat Olson, who paints in both a traditional style and a whimsical method, utilizing acrylic and pastel, on Thursday, September 25, and Marjory Allingham, who will be showing how she does Bauernmalerei, folk painting that originated in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, on Friday, September 26. Furthermore, league member Audrey Off will be working at the gallery on Thursday, October 2. She plans to paint a transparent watercolor on a large fall landscape.

Also on Monday, September 22, Baileys Harbor photographer Laszlo Szakala will present a 45-minute to one-hour program at the league’s monthly meeting, beginning at 7 pm, at the Gibraltar Fire Department meeting room at 3496 County Road F in Fish Creek. The meeting and presentation are open to the public.

The Door County Art League is comprised of members who are painters, sculptors, jewelers, potters, photographers, fabric artists, and more. All types of original art produced by 38 League members are on display and available for sale at the gallery. Business hours are Thursday through Monday, 10 am – 5 pm.
