Door County Author Releases “Star Shooting”

Local author David K. Dodd has released Star Shooting, a true-to-life novel that spotlights the promising young life of Ronnie Cousins. Set in the fictional small town of Humble, Kansas, the story of a popular all-American kid unfolds and reveals how his bright future changes with one surprisingly out-of-character crime.

Growing up in the 1960s, Cousins lived a typical carefree youth filled with baseball games, bike rides with friends, and time with his grandpa. He also experiences confusing and painful losses from his brother’s death in Vietnam to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Kennedy brothers. When despair pits itself against the hope, he does the unthinkable and his hometown and family is left wondering what went wrong.

Dodd, a retired psychologist who witnessed many court cases of troubled adolescents, brings Star Shooting to life with gripping trial scenes, compelling testimony from competing psychologists, and the struggle of a family and town seeking justice and reconciliation.

“The story is a combination of things I have seen in courts,” said Dodd. “When you are sitting in a court room as a spectator, you get the same view of the evidence as the jury but you feel like you are not getting the full story.”

Star Shooting is available in print for $16.95 at Book World in Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay; Passtime Books in Sister Bay; Novel Ideas in Baileys Harbor; Hide Side Corner Store in Fish Creek; and online at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.
