Join the Door County Beekeepers Club in welcoming Dr. Becky Masterman, Associate Program Director of the University of Minnesota (UMN) Bee Squad, as she presents “New Things Every Beekeeper Should Know” on April 26, 6:30 pm, at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay.
Dr. Masterman will share bee management tips with the latest research from UMN and other bee labs. Following refreshments she will give a short talk on the Varroa destructor mite. She will share why it is considered by many to be the number one threat to honeybees and how to work together to address the issue. The public is welcome. Freewill donations accepted.
Dr. Masterman has led the UMN Bee Squad program since 2013. She graduated from the UMN – Twin Cities first with a bachelor’s degree in history and then obtained a Ph.D. in Entomology under the direction of Dr. Marla Spivak, studying honeybee hygienic behavior and neurobiology. She leads a talented and growing Bee Squad team that provides bee outreach to beekeepers and the public in the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota and beyond.
