Door County Board of Realtors Receives $5,000 Placemaking Grant

The Door County Board of Realtors has received a $5,000 Placemaking grant from the National Association of Realtors to help transform an unused space in Algoma into a vibrant public space along the city’s Lake Michigan shore. The funds have created Christmas Tree Ship Point (algomacity.org/visitors): a partnership with the Algoma Parks and Recreation Department, Community Development of Algoma, Community Improvement of Algoma and a donation in memory of Helen Vlies.

“Realtors live, work and volunteer in their communities and take immense pride in working to improve them,” said Bonita Smrz, co-president of the Door County Board of Realtors’ Advocacy Committee. “Placemaking can help foster healthier, more social and economically viable communities. This grant will allow us to address areas in our community that are in need of enhancement and revitalization and create a place where friends and neighbors can come together.”
