One of Fish Creek’s newest seasonal attractions is the upcoming Door County Bridge Invitational, an American Contract Bridge League competition to be held Sept. 12-14, in the Stella Maris Parish in Fish Creek.
Tom Young, owner of Gibraltar Grill in Fish Creek, is the event organizer, supported by Barbara Piester, ACBL Sanctioned Certified Director of the event and owner of the Door County Bridge Club that plays in Egg Harbor.
When asked about the economic impact of this bridge invitational, Tom Young said, “About 60 percent of the participants are from out of the area, which results in three-day bookings for hotels as well as customers for restaurants and area shops. It all adds to the local economy and gives visitors another reason to return.”
In support of the local community, a portion of the profits are donated to Door County’s Stella Maris Parish.
According to Barbara Piester, “We surveyed the participants following each event and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Our tournament has become a great Door County attraction with people on a waitlist to attend.”
The Door County Bridge Club meets Tuesdays at Noon and Fridays at 9 am at the Stella Maris Parish in Egg Harbor. It is the only regularly scheduled American Contract Bridge League-sanctioned duplicate contract bridge north of Sturgeon Bay.
