Door County Business Briefs

Door County businesses have partnered with the Door County YMCA in their efforts to raise money for the 2009 Strong Kids Campaign by participating in the “Business Round-Up.”

Participating businesses include: Boettcher Communications, Cornucopia Kitchen Corner, Culvers, Door County Nature Works, Designworks, Harmann Studios, Hide Side Corner Store and Wilkins and Olander. A portion of their proceeds, as designated by each business, will go towards the Door County YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. The entire community is encouraged to patronize these businesses and thank them for their support of the Strong Kids Campaign.

The Strong Kids Campaign is the annual campaign to provide funds for scholarships and affordable programs “for all” in Door County regardless of age or financial need. In 2008, the Door County YMCA raised $355,000 to support this program and the goal for the 2009 campaign is $375,000.

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) and the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center will be offering free, one-on-one business counseling sessions on Thursday, April 2, 9 am – 5 pm, for any new or existing business owners in Door County.

Chuck Brys, Business Counselor for the Small Business Development Center, will be providing advice on business planning, financing and other issues. Brys is a CPA and former Chief Financial Officer for several Wisconsin companies, with over 30 years of business experience and knowledge to share with local entrepreneurs.

Gretchen Porten of Coldwell Banker Door County Horizon, recently completed a highly specialized course in residential real estate buyer sales strategies conducted by the Council of Residential Specialists of the National Association of REALTORS®.

This course is one in a series of professional education sequences required to qualify for the coveted Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation. The segments of the course included counseling techniques, understanding human behavior and professional knowledge of the required steps in the real estate sales sequence.

Porten additionally completed the requirements to become a Certified Home Marketing Specialist, which integrates staging and pricing concepts in strategic marketing.
